Terri Ann's Story
Life
At Santa Rita, I was involved in band (flute and piccolo), journalism, and the Speech Team. I attended Northern Az. Univ. on music and journlism scholarships. I got my degree in Journalism/Public Relations. After graduation, I packed my car and moved to Dallas -- it was 1980 and Urban Cowboy, Dallas (TV show), and country dancing were "in." I lived in the Dallas area for 12 years, working in a variety of corporate communications positions. In 1992, I moved to the Seattle area and, not long after, married a man who followed me here from Dallas. Two years into our marriage, we had our daughter (Catherine). Two years later, our marriage ended. I was a single mom for about five years. Remarried a Boeing HR manager in 2002. My last name is Betancourt.
So, now I'm married with a 12-year-old daughter (Catherine) and we live in Sammamish, WA (about 15 miles east of Seattle) with our almost-2-year-old mini-Schnauzer, Jazzy. I've managed the Public Affairs Dept. at the Port of Seattle / Seattle-Tacoma International Airport for the last eight years.
We're boaters. When not at work, we spend time at Puget Sound regional marinas on our boat (cocktails for 8, dinner for 4, sleeps 2!). We love to travel -- in the last few years, we've vi...Expand for more
sited Spain, Italy, France, Denmark, England, Malta (!), the Caribbean several times, Costa Rica, Victoria and Vancouver B.C. We take a few trips each year, attending conferences, too. Though I usually bring my mom to Seattle for a visit, I've managed to get back to Tucson each of the last two years.
In November 2007, we took our first trip to China, touring Beijing (and the Great Wall), Hanghzou, Suzhou, and Shanghai. In mid-April 2008, we're going to Paris. And, in July, we're taking a family vacation to South Africa - the highlight will be a 6-night photo safari we bought at a charity fundraising auction. On the horizon . . . we're planning trips to Argentina (home of the Tango!), Croatia, and Armenia (the country of my dad's family).
My husband and I enjoy photography and we have a weekend hobby/business shooting weddings and Quincenaras. He was a professional studio/wedding photographer in his early days, so we have a great time sharing that interest. I still love to dance, and my husband loves to dance, too (his favorite is Salsa dancing). And, I still play the flute -- mostly at parties with friends who bring their instruments. My daughter plays violin . . . to her horror, I like playing along with her when she's practicing!
